Johnsons were awarded the planning and relocation of University of Hertfordshire’s life sciences departments including laboratory and office areas in to their brand new, onsite £40m building.


A full move management plan was put into place which covered:

Project kick-off meeting to ensure all risk management, project governance, communication, escalation processes were discussed and agreed

Relocation over 4 phases

Data capture and validation of all items to be relocated (incl. specialist items such as COSHH lists and non ADR exempt samples and research)

Procurement and management of multi-vendor contractors responsible for decom/recom and recalibration of scientific equipment, heavy lifting, chemical moves etc.

Programme design, implementation and execution

Client meetings with all key stakeholders

Crate management

Document design and issuing

Design and implementation of labelling strategies in line with client requirements

Reduction strategy of consumables, planned and executed

Furniture auditing

Contingency planning developed due to uncertainty of relocation timetable


The running of this project proved to be so successful that the University have requested an agreement to be drawn up between ourselves and them, for future works on site.
