Carbon Reduction Plan 2024

Welcome to the Johnsons Group’s Carbon Reduction Plan for 2024. As the world confronts the critical challenges posed by climate change, it becomes crucial for industry leaders lird and lead by example.

We are excited to present our comprehensive strategy aimed at steering us towards achieving net zero emissions by 2050.

At the core of our initiative is our deep commitment to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles. We are acutely aware that our operations have far-reaching effects—extending beyond our immediate environment to the wider global community. It is with this awareness that we have developed a robust plan, targeting significant reductions in our carbon footprint and embedding sustainable practices across our entire organisation. Join us as we embark on this vital journey towards a more sustainable future, reinforcing our pledge to not just meet, but exceed, our environmental responsibilities. Creating sustainable, social and responsible outcomes across every move

At Johnsons, ESG is far more than a compliance requirement, it’s fundamental to how we operate and the impact we aim to create. With a heritage rooted in care, integrity and community, we take responsibility for ensuring every relocation project delivers positive outcomes for people, places and the planet. Our approach blends environmental responsibility, social value creation and strong governance to support a more inclusive, resilient and sustainable future.

Environmental Leadership & Net Zero Commitment

We are on a clear path toward Net Zero, supported by detailed carbon monitoring and specialist carbon accounting partners. Our Carbon Champions gather granular operational data, allowing us to analyse our Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions and refine our strategy year on year. We focus particularly on reducing Scope 3 emissions through better procurement practices and deeper collaboration with our supply chain.

Key progress includes:

• Investment in electric and hybrid fleet vehicles • Installation of EV charging infrastructure • PIR lighting, energy-efficient heating systems and depot upgrades • Migration to paperless systems • Commitment to low-carbon working practices, including hybrid working • Renewable energy provision within our depots

Our environmental strategy aligns with global initiatives including the UN Global Compact, SME Climate Hub and the Race to Zero.

Circular Asset Management with Johnsons Asset 360

Johnsons Asset 360 platform transforms how clients track, manage and dispose of assets. This digital system delivers full lifecycle visibility over furniture, equipment, IT, and specialist assets, capturing condition, movement, ownership and end-of-life outcomes.

Asset 360 enables:

• Barcode-based asset tagging • Real-time inventory management • Tracking of reuse, donation, resale and recycling outcomes • ESG and carbon reporting • Data-driven decision-making for estate optimisation

This approach helps our clients reduce procurement costs, increase reuse rates and significantly cut carbon associated with new product manufacture.

Assets4Change – Delivering Social Value Through Reuse

Our Assets4Change Social Enterprise ensures surplus furniture and equipment are put to meaningful use, supporting communities, charities, social enterprises and public sector organisations.

Examples include:

• MOD & GovReuse projects involving large-scale reuse of government furniture, saving over £100,000 in avoided procurement and preventing 29 tonnes of CO₂e in manufacturing emissions. • Donations of 93 items worth £13,015 to charity group 3Space in London. • Multi-charity redistribution of redundant assets during major refurbishment and relocation programmes. • Direct support to community organisations requiring low-cost workspace improvements.

Our aim is simple: maximise reuse, minimise waste, and create measurable social impact.

Supporting Our Clients on Their ESG Journey

We support organisations who are at different stages of their ESG maturity. This includes helping charities and public bodies develop ESG frameworks, reporting and policy documents to meet external standards such as the Premier League Capability Code of Practice (PL CCOP).

We share our knowledge, tools and guidance to help clients strengthen their governance, define meaningful targets and embed ESG into everyday practice.

Responsible Supply Chain & Governance

To ensure our supply chain reflects our values, we have introduced an ESG Supplier Policy, asking partners to commit to responsible, ethical and environmentally positive practices.

A recent survey found:

• 63% of suppliers have an active DEI policy • 70% measure their emissions • Many suppliers welcomed additional ESG support and guidance

This collaborative approach helps us reduce Scope 3 emissions and raise ESG standards across the industry.

We also maintain strong governance through: • Zero incidents of corruption, modern slavery, information breaches or harassment in 2024 • A culture of ethical behaviour and transparency • Whistleblowing and safeguarding frameworks • Robust health and safety systems and continuous improvement programmes

Social Value & Community Impact

Our people lead the way in supporting local communities. In 2024, colleagues dedicated countless hours to volunteering, from coaching youth sports to mentoring and community leadership.

Key initiatives include:

• Business-wide Christmas Food Drive supporting foodbanks nationwide • The Nathan Clarke Music Sponsorship Scheme, helping young people access music education and boosting cultural opportunity • DEIB Champions supporting diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging in the workplace • Trained Mental Health First Aiders across our depots

We are committed to creating positive social impact wherever we work.
