Sustainable Clearance
and Reuse
Furniture recycling
Once your office refurbishment or relocation is complete, you may be left with redundant furniture, equipment or fixtures no longer fit for purpose.
When items can’t be reused internally or upcycled, it’s essential they are handled responsibly, with minimal environmental impact.
At Johnsons, sustainability is at the heart of how we manage surplus assets. Through our Assets4Change Social Enterprise, we prioritise reuse, donation and repurposing, ensuring furniture and equipment are redirected to charities, schools, community groups and social enterprises wherever possible.
Our Johnsons Asset 360 platform provides full visibility and traceability. This digital system tracks every item through its lifecycle, showing what has been reused, donated, recycled or dismantled. It also provides transparent sustainability reporting, helping organisations demonstrate responsible asset management and support their ESG goals.
We are proud to operate a zero-landfill policy. With approximately 200,000 tonnes of waste still sent to landfill in the UK every year, none of it comes from Johnsons’ sustainable clearance workflows, and we are committed to keeping it that way.
The process
We pride ourselves on being an environmentally conscientious organisation, accredited to BS EN ISO 14001:2015 with a fully audited Environmental Management System in place. As part of your office relocation or workspace clearance, we ensure that every unused or unwanted item is managed responsibly through reuse, donation, resale or recycling, always prioritising the most sustainable route.
Through our Assets4Change social enterprise, we divert furniture and equipment back into communities, local charities and social causes, extending the life of materials and reducing waste. Supported by our Asset 360 platform, every item is tracked, giving you complete transparency over what has been reused, donated, recycled or reprocessed, along with detailed sustainability reporting for your ESG commitments.
As fully licensed waste carriers, we operate within strict compliance standards and maintain a zero-landfill commitment, ensuring your clearance process not only protects the environment but actively generates social value for your local community.
Furniture and
equipment recycling
When items reach the end of their usable life, we ensure they are processed responsibly. Each piece of furniture or equipment is dismantled into its component materials, allowing us to efficiently recycle metals, plastics, textiles and wood through approved recycling partners. This supports our zero-landfill commitment and provides full traceability through our Asset 360 reporting platform.
Furniture
donation
If your unwanted furniture is still in good condition, we prioritise reuse and donation through our Assets4Change social enterprise. Items are redirected to local schools, charities, social enterprises and community organisations, supporting CSR objectives, delivering measurable social value and extending the life of your assets.
Furniture
resale
Working with trusted furniture partners, we arrange the resale of quality items into secondary markets. You can choose to offset recycling costs, reinvest funds into your project, or donate the value to a charity of your choice. Resale is one of the most sustainable routes available and is fully tracked via Johnsons Asset 360 for ESG reporting.
Furniture
remanufacturing
For organisations wanting to refresh their workspace sustainably, we offer furniture remanufacturing and refurbishment services. This enables you to update and modernise your existing items including desks, seating and storage rather than purchasing new. Remanufacturing reduces waste, cuts carbon emissions and supports a circular, resource-efficient workspace strategy.
WEEE
recycling
All electrical and IT equipment is processed using Best Available Treatment, Recovery and Recycling Techniques (BATRRT) in full compliance with the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Regulations. From redundant IT suites to specialist devices, every item is handled securely, sustainably and with complete certification for audit and compliance purposes.
