Challenge

Johnsons were awarded the warehouse and storage relocation project at Michelin Tyres PLC. The two phase relocation programme took place at the Campbell Road site from building 114 North West to building 114 South East.

Solution

Phase 1 saw the relocation of the Engineering Workshop, J Stores and the Commerce area from J Stores to East Court Riverside. Whilst, phase 2 of the relocation saw the Engineering Workshop and J Stores being relocated from Building 114 to Building 119 and the move of the Commerce area from East Riverside to Building 119.

We relocated shelving contents to Michelin’s designated holding area whilst we dismantled, moved, positioned and reassembled racking, following which, we restocked the shelving. Racking and contents were moved/installed as per floor layouts and markings. The move process was undertaken in sections to ensure that the time stock was unavailable for immediate picking was kept to a minimum. All references and locations were maintained in sequence and all reassembled racking was examined and tested in accordance with SEMA Recommended Practice for Static Racking.

We provided 300 crates and 50 security roll cages for hire for both phases of this project. The crates and cages were used to relocate un-palletised shelving stock. Johnsons packed and unpacked shelving stock and recycled crates and cages for continued packing once empty and we used stretch-wrap to secure and protect the contents within the stillages and dexion racking.

Providing a collaborative working effort, we liaised directly with both Michelin and the specialist contractors hired to disconnect/reconnect the mains services to ensure our programme of works would not be disrupted due to their service.
